World-Class Historic Sites, Galleries, and Demonstrations

Fort Mackinac, on Mackinac Island, and Colonial Michilimackinac, in Mackinaw City, are National Historic Landmarks. The Richard & Jane Manoogian Mackinac Art Museum, Biddle House, featuring the Mackinac Island Native American Museum, Old Mackinac Point Lighthouse, Historic Mill Creek, and the buildings that make up Historic Downtown Mackinac are State Historic Landmarks. All of our historic sites feature live demonstrations, such as cannon and rifle firings at Fort Mackinac, weapons and foodways programs at Colonial Michilimackinac, sawmill and sawpit demonstrations at Historic Mill Creek, tours of the tower at Old Mackinac Point Lighthouse, an art studio at The Richard & Jane Manoogian Mackinac Art Museum, and a foodways program at the Biddle House. All sites include galleries, exhibits, period settings, and more.

 

Mackinac Island State Park, also a State Historic Landmark, encompasses more than 80% of Mackinac Island and includes the world-famous Arch Rock, other geological formations and historic sites such as Sugarloaf Rock, Friendship Altar, British Landing, Fort Holmes, Mission Church and Marquette Park. Michilimackinac State Park sits at the base of the Mackinac Bridge and offers unparalleled views of the bridge, Mackinac Island, Straits of Mackinac and Mackinac Island.

Unique Shopping

All of Mackinac State Historic Parks’ sites feature well-stocked and unique museum stores. Every store provides the opportunity to peruse Mackinac State Historic Parks’ publications (more than 100!), and branded material.

The Museum Store at Fort Mackinac is nestled in the historic Post Commissary. Here you’ll find official Fort Mackinac merchandise such as clothing, hats, keepsakes, toys, and mementos, as well as books and other souvenirs. You can also get your official ‘kepi’ or soldier’s hat here! The Mackinac Island State Park Visitor’s Center is home to the official Mackinac Island State Park store. Browse items highlighting the wonders of Mackinac Island State Park. The Richard & Jane Manoogian Mackinac Art Museum features works inspired by Mackinac Island for sale, including items from the juried art exhibition in the changing gallery.

Fort Mackinac Museum Store

The Colonial Michilimackinac Visitor’s Center, located under the Mackinac Bridge, is one of the premiere stores in Mackinaw City. On top of the largest selection of publications and official Colonial Michilimackinac items, you’ll find items for the home and special keepsakes of your visit to the Straits of Mackinac. The Hearthside Museum Store, located inside the South Southwest Rowehouse inside Colonial Michilimackinac, features exclusive Michilimackinac items as well as refreshments. Over at Old Mackinac Point Lighthouse, the Fog Signal Store offers a wide-variety of lighthouse-themed materials, as well as official Old Mackinac Point Lighthouse items. Inside the David A. Armour Visitor’s Center at Historic Mill Creek you’ll discover an astonishing variety of items with an outdoors theme.

Breathtaking Dining

The Tea Room Restaurant, operated by Grand Hotel, sits in front of the Officers’ Stone Quarters at iconic Fort Mackinac. The view from the Tea Room is nothing short of breathtaking. From the Tea Room diners can take in downtown Mackinac Island, the Straits of Mackinac, Round Island and Round Island Lighthouse, the Mackinac Bridge, and the lower peninsula and Mackinaw City. Snacks and refreshments are also available at the Colonial Michilimackinac Visitor’s Center, Hearthside Museum Store, and Historic Mill Creek. A covered pavilion at Historic Mill Creek is also a great lunch location, and catered luncheons are welcome.
