Visitor’s Center

The Mackinac Island State Park Visitor’s Center is located on the shore at the foot of Fort Street across from Marquette Park. The Visitor’s Center is a great place to begin your tour of the island. Here you can talk to friendly staff who will answer your questions and provide you with helpful suggestions. The Visitor’s Center has well-maintained restrooms and a wide selection of Mackinac books and pamphlets. This is an ideal place to purchase tickets for Fort Mackinac, the Mackinac Art Museum, and the other state park historic buildings. Restrooms can also be found at the Visitor’s Center.

British Landing Nature Center

British Landing Bike Repair Station

The British Landing Nature Center is located across from British Landing. The center includes information on the geology, plants, habitats and wildlife found on the island. Additionally, a large cedar tree trunk has been placed in the middle of the nature center and has various taxidermy animals on it with descriptions. Restrooms and a water fountain are also located at this facility. Additionally, a bike repair station is also located at the British Landing Nature Center, which includes a rack for your bike, repair tools, and an air pump.

British Landing Nature Programs

Mackinac’s Natural Wonders – 11:00am

Are you curious about the plants, animals, and famous geological features of Mackinac Island? Join a naturalist to learn about some natural wonders you’ll find in Mackinac’s North Woods. This 15-minute program takes place at the program seating area near the south side of the British Landing Nature Center.

Nature Discovery Walk – 2:00pm

Join us for a 20-minute walk along the British Landing Nature Trail where you’ll learn about some of the plants and animals that live on Mackinac Island. We’ll also visit Friendship’s Altar, one of Mackinac Island’s unique geological formations! Meet in front of the British Landing Nature Center. The nature trail is narrow and uneven (not wheelchair accessible).

Milliken Nature Center

Brand new for 2024! The Milliken Nature Center accents the natural beauty of Arch Rock. The exhibit inside, Arch Rock: Unsurpassed in Nature’s Beauty, celebrates what was known as the “Jewel of the Mackinac National Park” and is still today known as a “Star Attraction of Mackinac Island State Park.” It features dozens of stunning historic images of Arch Rock as well as a timeline of how the arch was formed. In addition, the center highlights geology on Mackinac Island as a whole, from the formation of the island itself and how stunning features such as Sugarloaf Rock and Skull Cave came to be. A highlight of the center is an interactive 3D map of the island.

Huron Road Rest Area

A restroom building, pavilion and picnic area can be found at the Huron Road Rest Area. Located next to Fort Mackinac off Huron Road. This space can also be rented for events. Email our Marketing and Group Travel Coordinator for more information.

Station 256 Conference Room 

Located on the second floor of the Mackinac Island State Park Visitor’s Center, formerly the 1915 Coast Guard Station. This space can host small receptions and/or meetings. Click here for more information. 

Accessibility 

Island transport services and visitor attractions make special efforts to welcome people with disabilities and those using assistive devices. Motorized wheelchair units that are medically necessary are permitted on island streets. These units are available for rent on the island at Ryba’s Bikes (rybabikes.com or 906-847-3208).

The taxi service has special horse-drawn vehicles equipped for wheelchairs and available by contacting the dispatch office (906-847-3323). Advanced reservation is recommended.
