The trails at Historic Mill Creek Discovery Park allow for even the novice hiker to get out and enjoy.
Historic Mill Creek offers more than three miles of groomed hiking trails that allows you to truly explore the beauty of northern Michigan. Visitors of all ages to Historic Mill Creek will have a blast at the Forest Friends Play Area, featuring the Chickadee Zip Line, making birds sing on the Evergreen Trail’s Sounds of the Forest station, and taking in the view from the Treetop Discovery Tower.
Over on Mackinac Island, explore more than 70 miles of trails and roads covering Mackinac Island State Park. Completely closed to cars and other vehicles, visitors are able to travel around the state park on foot, bike, carriage or horseback. Paved roads connect primary points of interest and M-185 circles the island’s shoreline. Interior paths and trails lead you along the bluffs, through cedar forests, to unique geological features, such as Arch Rock and Sugarloaf Rock, and historical sites such as Fort Holmes and British Landing.

Encompassing over 1,770 acres on Mackinac Island, Mackinac Island State Park is open to the public year ’round. Stop by British Landing and gaze at the beautiful Mackinac Bridge; snap a selfie at Arch Rock with some of the bluest water you’ll see as your backdrop; feel like you’re on top of the world at Fort Holmes; or stop on a lush trail and take in the absolute quiet.
At Historic Mill Creek enjoy the “Nature of the North Woods” programs that include guided walks, stories, and fun activities. Take some time to climb to the top of the five-story Treetop Discovery Tower to experience a view of the Straits of Mackinac, Mackinac Bridge, Mackinac Island, and other sites, that you won’t soon forget.
Old Mackinac Point Lighthouse is the best spots to gaze at and photograph the mighty Mackinac Bridge. It’s also a great place to watch the Great Lakes freighters cross under the bridge.
