Scope of Duties:
The park operations and grounds/maintenance internship will work as a part of the Park Operations unit on Mackinac Island. This internship will learn the administrative functions of park management, assist with setting up office systems, learn how to serve the visitors to Mackinac State Historic Parks (MSHP) by performing duties in a park setting with numerous and varied contacts with the public on a daily basis.
Work Location and Schedule:
The workstation for this position is the park operations office on Mackinac Island although the internship candidate may be asked to work at other MSHP park sites around the island. This internship will generally work 12 weeks starting in May and working into early August, and is scheduled to work 32 hours per week (approximately four days per week). The intern may be required to work evenings, holidays and/or weekends.
Free Housing:
This is an unpaid internship, but MSHP will offer free housing on Mackinac Island to the selected individual in return for 32 hours per week of internship duties. Housing is dormitory-style with kitchen facilities available. We will also attempt to help to find a paid position in the area, possibly with MSHP, to assist with spending money.
