Scope of Duties:
This position serves visitors to Mackinac State Historic Parks (MSHP) by assisting the Chief of Marketing in a variety of activities, including writing and designing the bi-weekly employee newsletter (The Current), and all aspects of producing a news release, including interviewing sources, writing, and editing, promoting special events, and serving as a photographer/videographer for MSHP.
Responsibilities:
1. Put MSHP’s visitors first by treating them with respect, serving their needs, and providing an enjoyable and educational experience.
2. Create, design and write The Current, the bi-weekly MSHP newsletter.
3. Create official MSHP press and news releases.
4. Serve as staff photographer and create video content for MSHP promotional purposes.
5. Manage certain MSHP social media accounts and actively investigate new content and avenues for promotion.
6. Assist in the promotion of MSHP events
7. Assist at Mackinac Associates events
Position Requirements:
1. Must be studying marketing, public relations, journalism, or related field.
2. Must be outgoing, enthusiastic, self-motivated, and have strong public speaking skills.
3. Experience with Adobe suite of products desired, but not required.
4. Must be able to follow verbal and written directions, and be able to verbally communicate with visitors and coworkers.
5. Must be able to work assigned position length.
Internship Location and General Information:
The workstation for this position is the Post Hospital Administration Office on Mackinac Island with frequent travel to Mackinaw City and work out of the Petersen Center Administrative Office and the historic sites there. This position will generally work 12 weeks starting in May and working into August, and is scheduled to work 32 hours per week (approximately four days per week). The intern may be required to work evenings, holidays and/or weekends.
Housing and Stipend:
This is an unpaid internship, but Mackinac State Historic Parks (MSHP) will offer a $2,000 stipend upon successful completion of internship. Free Housing on Mackinac Island is offered to the selected individual in return for 32 hours per week of internship duties. Housing is dormitory-style with kitchen facilities available. We will also attempt to help to find a paid position in the area, possibly with MSHP, to assist with spending money.
