Mackinac State Historic Parks first published its Historic Guidebook to the island in 1962 with text by George S. May. It ran through several editions and ten printings. In 1979 it was replaced by the fully-revised Historic Mackinac Island Visitor’s Guide with text by Eugene Petersen. It was revised in 1994 and fully revised and edited in 2004 and 2013 by Phil Porter.
