Married at Mackinac: James and Danielle

Mackinac State Historic Parks has 10 wedding venues spread between Mackinac Island and Mackinaw City. From the original gazebo in the movie Somewhere in Time to the lighthouse at Old Mackinac Point featuring a stunning view of the Mackinac Bridge, MSHP’s wedding venues offer a little something for everyone.

We thought it would be fun to showcase some of the weddings at our sites in an occasional series. Here is the first entry:

James and Danielle met as coworkers and were close friends for eight years before they began dating. In January of 2018, James and Danielle visited their favorite park in New Boston, Michigan. Danielle closed her eyes to make a wish and when she opened them, James was waiting on one knee asking her to marry him.

James and Danielle chose the Somewhere in Time Gazebo, located off Anne’s Tablet Trail on Mackinac Island for their June ceremony. The couple mentioned they wanted something simple and classic with a view of nature and the water. The location and view of the gazebo fit their needs perfectly. James says he will never forget the first sight of Danielle walking around the hedges and the carriage ride they took around the island after the ceremony. After their intimate wedding at the gazebo, a small reception and dinner was held at Goodfellow’s Restaurant downtown on Mackinac Island. After their nuptials, the newlyweds offered a piece of advice to future couples: “Follow your heart and do what feels right!”

The couple describes their day as, “magical, beautiful and perfect,” and we couldn’t agree more.
