Bone Button Blank

This piece of bone is scrap from the making of bone button backs. A circular drill was used to cut bone discs from flat pieces of animal bone. These bone discs were used as backs in multi-part buttons or alone as plain buttons. This piece of bone scrap is further evidence of the post-1812 tailors’ activities.
