Responsible for inventorying, cataloging and other general collections work, and may also include organization and cataloging of historic photograph or archival collections material and assisting in conservation treatments and research. Possible opportunities to participate in work with artifacts, costumed interpretation or visitor evaluation as well. This position has been filled for the 2023 season.
This position is based at the Keith R. Widder Library in Mackinaw City. The intern will be responsible for processing books, scanning photographs, and other general archival and collections work. Duties may include organization and cataloging of archival collections material, assisting researchers and maintaining a vertical research file. Now accepting applications for the 2023/24 winter.
Assist the exhibit designer in a wide variety of tasks related to the development, care and upkeep of MSHP exhibits and displays, include period settings, artifact-rich display cases, murals, dioramas, outdoor panels, touch-screen video displays, dress-up rooms and interactive exhibits. These are located at all historic sites and within Mackinac Island State Park. This position has been filled for the 2023 season.
The marketing intern is responsible for assisting the marketing manager in a variety of activities, including writing and designing the bi-weekly employee newsletter (The Current), all aspects of producing a news release, photography and video, and social media. This position has been filled for the 2023 season.
Assist visitors at all of the historic sites within MSHP, which includes meeting scheduled motor-coach groups, assisting other staff at evening programs, weddings, and other special events. Based on the individual’s interests and skills, the intern will also have opportunities to participate in all facets of the marketing department.
The park operations and grounds/maintenance internship will work as a part of the Park Operations unit on Mackinac Island learning the administrative functions of park management, setting up office systems, and how to serve the visitors to Mackinac State Historic Parks by performing duties in a park setting with numerous and varied contacts with the public on a daily basis.
