Mackinac Island is a landscape of high limestone bluffs, beautiful vistas of sparking water, vibrant forests, and mystical geological formations. With automobiles banned since 1898, here exists a quieter way of life. The island consists of 2,317.5 acres, and over 80 percent of the Island--nearly 1,800 acres--is within Mackinac Island State Park, which is open year round and free of charge. The island has 70 miles of roads and trails for hiking, bicycling, horseback riding, and carriage tours.
