Historical Collection

Historical objects in the collection are in two general categories.  The first category includes furniture, personal items and other objects that belonged to the people of the Straits of Mackinac.  Sometimes these objects have remained in attics in local buildings. At other times they have traveled with descendants to other parts of the world, before returning to Mackinac.  The second group  are objects that duplicate originals that no longer exist or that are not available for exhibit. They are period pieces, but were never used at Mackinac.  These are used to recreate period settings in our historic buildings.  The gallery showcases some of the most precious objects in the collection.
